The majority of chiropractic problems seen in office workers come down to poor posture. The simple act of sitting is enough to be harmful to the musculoskeletal system if done for long enough periods of time.
Over time these common day-to-day activities can result in postural and spinal problems. This spinal stress or strain can interfere with nerve function and place excessive pressure on nerves. It is this pressure or interference that causes pain or other symptoms that drive patients to seek relief.
There are many conditions that can be linked to poor desk posture. Some may surprise you, as they can seem completely unrelated to your posture. Problems can arise in the upper or lower back as well as the neck – anywhere vertebrae can be pinched or compressed. The most common ailments that arise from poor posture include:
- Headache
- Sinus pressure
- Neck pain or neck ache
- Tingling in the arm, fingers or leg
- Frozen shoulder/loss of function in the shoulder
- Tightness in trapezius area
- Dizziness
- Fatigue
